早年生活

山德斯生於英國約克郡西瑞丁的奧特利[6]，曾經就讀於漢普郡的萬斯沃斯勳爵學院（英語：Lord Wandsworth College）和中央演講和戲劇學院[7]。他的父親威廉是一名土壤分析師，母親布蘭達（Brenda）本姓利奇（Leach），是一名保守黨議員以及當地戲劇社的領頭人[8][9]。

職業生涯

山德斯在出道之初主要在各大電影中演出配角，作品包括《牛津藍調（英語：Oxford Blues）》、《殺戮戰場》等。1984年，山德斯在BBC根據小說《歡樂之盒（英語：The Box of Delights）》改編的同名電視劇中友情客串了一名希臘士兵[10]。1985年，山德斯在瑞士恐怖電影《After Darkness》中與尊·赫上演對手戲，同年又在愛情片《看得見風景的房間》 扮演了主角。隨着《看得見風景的房間》以及1986年肯·羅素執導的《魂斷仲夏夜》的成功，山德斯退掉了《莫里斯的情人》的演出，開始進軍好萊塢美國電影[7]。

山德斯於1989年出演了恐怖片《超速魔俠》的主角，其後又在1993年出演了續集《惡魔之子》。

1991年，山德斯參演了電影《春光奏鳴曲（英語：Impromptu (1991 film)）》和《裸體午餐》，分別飾演李斯特·費倫茨和伊夫·克洛凱（Yves Cloquet）。除此之外，山德斯的電影作品還包括《小魔星》（1990年）、《盒裝美人》（1993年）、《吸血鬼傳說》（Tale of a Vampire，1992年）、《離開拉斯維加斯》（1995年）等電影的重要角色[7][11]。

個人生活

山德斯於1984年娶了英國記者及作家薩拉·哈維（Sarah Harvey）為妻，兩人於1987年離婚，育有一個兒子[28]。1990年9月22日，經好友約翰·馬克維奇介紹，山德斯娶了美國的劇作家葉夫根尼亞·契考維茨[29][30]，兩人育有兩個女兒[31]。桑德斯非常注重保護家人的隱私，甚少在採訪中談及妻兒的情況[32]。

自1990年到去世為止，桑德斯一直和家人住在洛杉磯[33]。

山德斯是一名狂熱的登山運動愛好者。2023年1月13日，山德斯前往加利福尼亞州聖蓋博山脈的聖安東尼奧山徒步旅行，當晚傳出失蹤消息[34][35]。搜救人員隨後開始出動尋找，但由於受到暴雨阻擋而進展不佳。1月18日，山德斯的車子被找到，次日，報道稱山德斯的三個孩子已加入搜尋，其中兒子亨利正在一名熟練登山者的陪同下重走山德斯的旅行路線。另外，山德斯的手機Ping定位或因電量耗盡而於1月15日開始消失[36]。

根據推測，山德斯失蹤時所走的路線應該是「距離山腳3,900英尺（1,200公尺）、還差超過4.5英里（7.2公里）到達聖蓋博山最高峰」的一條名為「Baldy Bowl」的小路[37]，而根據報道，該區域已被發現有雪崩跡象[38]。

1月23日，一名聖貝納迪諾縣的代表證實，空中搜索仍在繼續，但因地面區域處於冰封狀態且有雪崩風險，地面搜索能否繼續則尚不確定[39]。在山德斯失蹤11天後，其家人發表聲明對地面搜救隊伍表示感謝[40]。

1月25日，據BBC報導，山德斯的兄弟尼克（Nick Sands）表示覺得山德斯已無生還可能，目前正在嘗試接受這一事實[41]。4月14日，山德斯的兒子亨利對《泰晤士報》表示，鑑於加利福尼亞州遇上40年來最高降雪潮的情況，他非常理解天氣情況對過去三個月的搜救行動的影響，但亦希望搜救人員在天氣好轉後能繼續搜尋[42]。

6月19日，聖貝納迪諾縣警察局發表聲明稱已於17日派出一個80人組成的搜救隊伍前往聖安東尼奧山的偏遠區域搜尋。據警察局統計，自1月份山德斯失蹤以來，當局已組織過8次搜救任務，總志願搜救時長逾500小時[43]。

6月23日，山德斯的家人表示仍然將山德斯銘記於心[44]。

6月24日，有登山者於山德斯所在區域發現人類屍體[45]，27日，屍體被認定為有很大可能是山德斯[1][46]。7月24日，山德斯的死因被公布為「不明確」，因為其屍體的情況在處理同類案件時「很常見」，無法得出明確結果[47]。
